Rush, Reserve, and DVD/VIDEO processing for shelf preparation

1.         Rush material from circulation – Material that comes up from Cindy or other circulation staff (hardcover and soft cover material are processed  in the same way):

    1. Create a call number label with vgerspin software. All staff in Shelf Direct and Binding Services should know how to do this.
    2. Check the fund number to see if there is book plate assigned to that plate, otherwise use a generic Princeton U. bookplate, and attach it to the inner side of the cover.
    3. Attach a date due slip under the barcode located in the back of the book if needed (refer to the plating instructions sheet in the plating area if you are unsure, but Library LC call number stack copies get date due slips)
    4. Stamp the top edge of the book with a P.U. property stamp.
    5. If it is a Dixon book, attach the dust jacket to the book.
    6. Walk it down to circulation and hand it directly to the person who made the request to rush the book along, otherwise give it to another full time staff member in circulation.

2.         Branch rush material and branch reserve material:

Process it as one would any item going downstairs-

a.   Create call number label with vgerspin software

b.      Check the fund number to see if there is book plate assigned to that plate, otherwise use a generic Princeton U. bookplate, and attach it to the inner side of the cover. (Remember that SA locations get special plates)

c.       Attach a date due slip to the back side if needed (refer to the plating instructions sheet in the plating area if you are unsure, but most books should get a date due slip)

d.      Stamp the top edge of the book with a P.U. property stamp.

e.       Put on the top row of the book truck with the finished books going to circulation. Circulation will discharge this material and send it on its way. If, at the end of the day, the truck has rush material on top row but is only a partial truck, take truck to circulation anyway (make sure to get a count on the books on the truck).

3.         Firestone Reserve material:

a.   Create call number label with vgerspin software. Some material going to Reserve do not have barcodes, create the call number using the one copy that does have a barcode if it is on hand, otherwise enter the call number into the text area of the vgerspin software. Do not add copy numbers unless you have those inside written inside the book with the call number.

b.   Use a generic Princeton U. bookplate, and attach it to the inside cover of the book unless there is an illustration on that page. If so please put the plate on the first clear page. If you are processing a soft cover book and you can use the inside cover, you can use the self stick bookplates, otherwise use a glue stick or the glue machine to attach the book plate.

c.   Attach a pocket to the page with the barcode on the backside of the book. The page facing the barcode page in the back of the book can also be used. Use the self stick pockets found in the office.

d.   Stamp all three edges of the book with a P.U. property stamp.

e.   Put on the shelf for Reserves (make sure to get a count for the stats book when these items are picket up by Reserve).

4.         DVD’s and video’s:

a.   Create call number label with vgerspin software. Videos get a call number on the outside case – positioned like a book, with a second on the actual vhs tape. DVD’S get a call number on the face, upper left hand side.

b.   Media that is rushed to VIDL get placed with Reserve material. Reserves walk them over. The non-rush or reserve DVD and VHS material get placed in an envelope and sent on to VIDL. There are no plates, stamping or date dues with this material.
